Guinness World Record Set at APU for Multinational Tug-of-War!
Guinness World Record Set at APU for Multinational Tug-of-War!
On Saturday, November 1, 2014, an international tug-of-war tournament was held on campus with participation of students from over 50 countries. Thanks to the generous cooperation from the event organizers, student participants, university faculty and staff, and the Oita Tug of War Federation, this event set a Guinness World Record. This is the first Guinness World Record achieved here since 2008 when the record of “most nationalities in a sauna” was set and is the only current Guinness World Record for APU and the APU Alumni Association.
The event was also a valuable experience for international students as they were able to learn about more about the strong ties Oita Prefecture has with tug-of-war such as the fact that it is home to the former tug-of-war world champion team, “Cosmo Ladies”.
We hope to continue to support international students in learning about Oita Prefecture and provide more opportunities to share about local events and other information.
We are sincerely grateful to the Oita Tug of War Federation and all who supported this event to make it possible. Thank you very much.
